Hello, welcome and thank you for visiting my website. Please look around to see what I offer and do not hesitate to contact me for further information - either by telephone: 01484 640374 or email: Shieldsshaw@phonecoop.coop.
My main area of work nowadays is in the quiet, nurturing and supportive realm, helping you to explore and connect with your emotional and physical self. I hope you may gain some insights into yourself and way of being. My previous experience over the years has included, both paid and voluntarily, woking with people living with AIDS/HIV, at a drug and alcohol support clinic, at Kirkwood Hospice and for Huddersfield Samaritans. Since mid 2016 I have been training in Hakomi, a wonderful, gentle method of body psychotherapy which can also be described as 'assisted self discovery', and am currently working towards Level 3. In 2005 I graduated as a teacher of the Alexander Technique, following a three year training process studying the functioning, use and connectedness of the human body and mind; and I am a qualified somatic movement coach, in the tradition of Thomas Hanna. The Alexander Technique and somatic approaches profoundly influence my life and work, however I no longer offer sessions purely in either of these methods.
I am a member of, and bound by the Code of Ethics of the Northern Massage Association and Massage Training Institute (www.massagetraining.co.uk). For many years I have had my own regular meditation and movement practice, which includes learning Tai Chi.
Please get in touch if you are interested in coming to see me. I offer you a professional, friendly service in a safe, quiet and calm space. I always try to explain things as they are and listen to what you need, and if I thought someone else could help you more than I could I would not hesitate to give you that option.
